Darauf entführt uns das kanadische Quartett ins Las Vegas der 60er und an den Abgrund der Welt.
Nachdem die kanadische „All-Star-Band“ MOONRIIVR aus Toronto bereits zwei Singles aus ihrem Debütalbum „Vol.1“ veröffentlicht hat, sind jetzt gleich zwei neue Songs erschienen: „Midnight At The Garten Hotel“ und „The Hypnotist“.
Sänger Gavin Gardiner erklärt:
„Midnight at the Garden Hotel imagines the last hours on earth. Living through this era where the morning news, or even the colour of the sky, feels tinged with the whiff of apocalypse, Garden Hotel attempts to take a sober, but hopeful, look at our present state.
The recording of this song was a very special experience. Camped out at the Robertson family farm north of the city, we turned the 3 car garage into an ad hoc recording studio, going so far as to drag a fridge sized 24 Track MCI tape machine along with most of the gear from the All Day Coconut studio. With the cars backed up to the garage so we could use the back seats as ISO booths for the amps, we opened the windows to allow a little bleed back into the room mics, creating our own unique soundstage. It was a hot July night, the air was thick and the music was flowing. After only a few takes we had what would become the album version. I almost didn’t want to admit we had it because the rush was so strong I wanted to sing it all night.“
„The Hypnotist“ hingegen ist ein wundervoll zeitloses, smoothes Sehnsuchtslied, das uns gleichzeitig ins Las Vegas der 60er oder auf irgendeine Segelyacht voller Champagner entführt.
MOONRIIVR, das sind Gavin Gardiner – bekannt als Frontmann der Juno-nominierten Indie-Folk-Band „The Wooden Sky“ und als Produzent und Tontechniker in den All Day Coconut Studios für Künstler wie Fiver, Jason Collette und Leanne Betasamosake Simpson – James Robertson, der normalerweise als Lead-Gitarrist mit Künstlern wie Lindi Ortega und Dwayne Gretzky auftritt sowie der erstklassige Bassist Ben Whitely (The Weather Station, Basia Bulat, Julia Jacklin) und der außergewöhnliche Schlagzeuger Lyle Molzan (Kathleen Edwards, Corb Lund).
Ihre Musik klingt so als könnte sie jederzeit in den letzten 60 Jahren aufgenommen worden sein. Rock ’n‘ Roll der 50er Jahre, R&B und Country der 60er Jahre und weitere klangliche Einflüsse der 70er Jahre treffen auf einem warmen analogen Tonband zusammen. Und obwohl sich die kanadische Band von vergangenen Jahrzehnten inspieren lässt, klingt ihre Musik wunderbar zeitlos.
Das Debütalbum „Vol.1“ erscheint am 8. November via Victory Pool Records.
